Pro Stock Category

Definition and Core Status
Pro Stock stands as one of the four professional categories in NHRA drag racing alongside Top Fuel and Funny Car, widely known within the industry as "Factory Hot Rods". Unlike Top Fuel and Funny Car racers that run on nitromethane, Pro Stock machines operate on race fuel and are strictly prohibited from using forced induction systems such as turbochargers, superchargers, or nitrous oxide setups. This makes it the only NHRA professional class strictly based on the silhouette of production models. Officially established in 1970, the inaugural event title was clinched by legendary driver Bill Jenkins behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro.

Technical Specifications
Pro Stock cars are built around a welded 4130 chromoly tubular steel chassis paired with a four-link rear suspension, carrying a minimum weight requirement of 2,350 lbs (around 1,066 kg). The body utilizes an NHRA-approved carbon-fibre shell with Lexan windows, requiring the exterior styling to retain a clear visual link to its showroom counterpart. Under the bonnet lies a naturally aspirated single-cam, 90-degree V8 engine capped at 500 cubic inches (approx. 8.2 litres), fitted with electronic fuel injection (EFI) and running on racing petrol to dish out over 1,300 hp. Power is transferred via a Liberty or G-Force five-speed clutchless manual gearbox. A complete, race-ready Pro Stock engine costs upwards of RM1,100,000 (USD 250,000).

Performance
A competitive Pro Stock machine can blast through the quarter-mile (around 402 metres) strip in under 6.5 seconds, registering a trap speed in excess of 210 mph (approx. 338 km/h). While not matching the sheer raw numbers of the 1,000-foot sprints seen in Top Fuel and Funny Car, Pro Stock competition focuses heavily on driver launch reaction times and run-to-run consistency. Winning margins are frequently decided by mere thousandths of a second, making launch Reaction Time (RT) and gear-shift precision the ultimate deciding factors.

2026 Season Competitive Landscape
For the 2026 season, the Pro Stock class features across all 20 NHRA national rounds for the first time, enjoying equal billing on the calendar alongside Top Fuel and Funny Car. Following the U.S. Nationals, Dallas Glenn heads the standings with 1,235 points, closely stalked by Greg Anderson with 1,230 points—a razor-thin 5-point margin. Greg Stanfield sits third with 1,025 points, Matt Hartford holds fourth on 991 points, and Erica Enders rounds out the top five with 842 points. KB Titan Racing, spearheaded by Greg Anderson, Dallas Glenn, and Aaron Stanfield, remains the dominant force in the paddock.

Historical Records
Up to 2022, the Pro Stock category has staged 900 NHRA national events, crowning 70 different round winners. Greg Anderson holds the all-time Pro Stock victory record with 99 wins, closely followed by Warren Johnson with 97, and Bob Glidden in third with 85. Erica Enders stands as the most successful female driver in class history with 33 national event victories. The Chevrolet Camaro has maintained a clean sweep of every Pro Stock victory since 2016, with the last non-Camaro winner being Alan Johnson in a Dodge Dart back in 2016.
